Mountain Crest Bloodhounds

Proudly Presents

DON'T

 Buy a Puppy if........

You expect the puppy to stay in a crate

for 8 to 10 hours or more a day

without having to go to the bathroom or allowed to eat or drink

If your puppy is left unattended in your home for hours

while you are off to work with nothing for them to do
                                                                ..... (but get into trouble)

If you leave treasured things lying around

for your puppy to destroy when you are home.... or gone

Don't blame the breed of the dog ..

Instead blame yourself

If you can't afford dog food   ( DAH?)

If you can't afford a Animal Sitter while

you and your family are at work or school

If you don't want an unexpected mess

found or left around your home...

Animal proof the house..... just like you would for a child...

If you don't have common sense

DON'T

Buy a live dog!!!

Go to your local Walmart.....buy a Mechanical Critter

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Puppies are like

      toddlers

You wouldn't leave a toddler home alone by himself

and expect him to behave.... or feed himself..... or change his diaper

Make appropriate places for your dog to stay home alone safely

All puppies can learn to stay home alone for long lengths of time

But it takes training, good facilities and
responsibility on behalf of the dogs people
 or hired trainers

All puppies will test you and try to become the ALPHA Pack Mate....

Correct your puppy when it is still little and young

If your puppy is getting out of hand it's because you are not doing something right...

Find the solution...read...call for help

(If we don't have the answer....

We can put you in touch with different Bloodhound People)

                                              ...talk to your Vet...

If you Over correct your pup and extend the obedience both in home

and outside classes...

Sometimes the pup is just sick of being told no all the time...

Give more praise  (you can get further with Honey than Vinegar)

Less than 5 mins at at time throughout the day

Is all a small puppy can retain any discipline

As they grow older (6mos to a year)

Extend it to 10 mins then to 15 mins

                               Sorry

Puppies do not understand the modern day

                       Kids time out...

Don't put them in a cage for an hour
and expect them to understand what they
have done wrong?...they are not human

This confuses them and
some will start to learn agression towards you
becoming unruly ....noisy..... and hyper

Correct your pup when caught...on the spot then forget it....

When he does it again.... correct him again...etc

Eventually he will catch on......Repetition

Train you puppy to love his cage

Put treats or toys he can get only when in the cage

Have you ever watched Mommy Dog correct her pups???

Even though she may have 11+ children

She corrects them with kisses ....love bites and patience...

Dogs do not think..... they learn by repetition

They learn by observing other Pack members....

They are observing you and your children

Are your kids under control?

Most likely your puppie is acting like your children..

Remember when Bloodhounds at 6mos of age become a 70lb +.... (adolescent)

They are still mentally a puppie..until 2 to 3 years old
Depending whether or not male or female

Don't call your Breeder

1-2-3 months later and tell them you can't handle your dog anymore

and want to give him back

And don't give the lame excuse.... I have had a lot of puppies in the past

but this is the worst

This is what you're telling your breeder.....

You've had a lot of different types of puppies in the past

and you've done the same thing to all of them

You've tried out the product.... broken it......

and now you want your money back...or just give your problem to someone else..

Do everyone a favor........ and for the sake of all breeders in the future

Especially Dog Rescues....and Animal Shelters....

Never ...........purchase another pet

It is your responsibility

before you buy a puppy to think ahead

....................................................................................................................................................................................

Instead

Use Alternatives.......

For every problem there is a solution

Don't give up on a young puppy

Hire a babysitter for your dog while your away

Neighbor kids are always looking for a pastime job..

Elderly people are always looking for a few bucks

to add to their Social Security Checks

Have them come in daily..... maybe walk your dog for a couple of hours each day....

Or just spend some time with them

Lots of Wonderful Older people love pets

Take your dog to a Boarding kennel while you work

Make sure they are the type that exercise...feed....

and spend time with your pet

Give your dog lots of toys and bones while left home

Supply access to constant food and water
Puppies learn to eat less and not gorge

Make a safe place

Get him company .....

find another pet of equal size...and age......for a companion

Look at the love you get when you come home........

Isn't it worth it....to give some back

Quit being self centered and start thinking of your pet

If you are working a lot of hours????........

You should be able to save a little of that money for your dog

Last......but not least

Research the different breeds the dog you want to purchase

Don't pick a puppy just cause he's cute...all puppies are cute...

                        Make it.....
Your responsibility to know
              the breed your buying

Check the puppy you are purchasing with your breeder

If you see something you are in question about

the time to ask is...... before you purchase the puppy

I know it's hard to resist but....

Please don't take your newly purchased puppy

 to the pet store

Young pups are highly susceptable to

diseases and lots of different dogs enter these stores

Breeders can only Vaccinate young puppies for

certain Diseases

Wait until your puppy is older and your Vet

gives you the clear to

Be careful not to let your young puppy out at rest areas

Buy a puppy piddle pad to use when needed

Lay it on the ground so the pup gets used to

using it outside

Remember areas where you walk you bring home....
on the soles of your shoes...your hands..
your clothing

puppy pads

etc...etc...etc
