We Love Bloodhounds we know you will too...
Bloodhounds are easily trained, very intelligent, quick and willing to learn... They are Loyal with Great Personality... A versatile Breed of Dog.... Hunters...Trackers and exceptional House Pets ...
85% of our puppies go to family homes as pets.... 10% become Hunters...Trackers... 5% AKC Show and SAR Teams
Born into Generations of Houndsmen Blessed and privileged to live and hunt with some of the best versatile woodsmen of the state.... It has been our honor to own most breed of Hound...... But.. for us the Bloodhound works the best...
We are frequently asked... "Do the Bloodhound need to be taught to track.... or does it come natural " Here's our Example.... you be the Judge.... All dog breeds can scent isn't this a natural instinct...? Yes True...most all dog breeds can smell scent But only a portion of the story.... Not all Bloodhounds can earn the title..... Hunting or Tracking Dogs.... (whether Tracking Man or Beast) And not all dogs have the nose to scent as the Bloodhound has Therefore----- Like all dogs they can make a quick dive at the nearest squirrel.... then follow their nose to the next door neighbor's cat.. While searching for a scrap of unwrapped candy... They can get into all kinds of trouble... and come home smelling like they had a rondeau.... This is not a true hunter... this is a nuisance... a scent jumper and not even a good family pet Where the Bloodhounds differ is the ability to smell 100 thousand times more than any other Breed of Dog on the face of this Planet Why do you think they are so popular with the Armed forces? Why do you think they are so popular with the Police in finding Escapes from prisons? Why do you think they are so popular finding lost people? Did you know they are the only dog breed Admissible in a Court of Law as a witness? Here is the test our pups must pass....before they get the Honorable Mention
Do they have the heart and stamina along with drive and desire... to stick to (one )scent for hours Is the willingness there to endure different terrain of Rocks, Mountains, Woods, Swamps, Bush, and Brush Do they look forward to the experience.... Are they enjoying it? Does fear overcome their ambition... Do they shutter at the sound of a rifle? crack of a twig, rumble of thunder, or bolt of lighting? Do they travel well and work well with other dogs in the same pack Are they leaders? or do they follow the pack as subordinates.... Can they work alone without the distraction of needing others or humans around them? ..Do they understand commands well and respond quickly Are they intimidated or distracted by other people or animals? When we train our dogs We consider our dogs mentally puppies until 3 yrs of age And this solely depends on the nature of the individual Some adapt faster some slower Taking all this into consideration we know our dogs cannot be pushed beyond their limit It is strictly up to them... Dogs just like people have their own attitudes and desires... the key is this..... find That One Pup that has the same excitement and desire to Hunt or Track like you do... True houndsmen know it can take years to find...raise.. and train a good seasoned dog..... Repetition..... Experience Patience along with Good old fashion Love is the real tale..... that will benefit both hound and man.. Our belief at Mountain Crest is... There is no sense dragging a child into the woods when he will never enjoy the trip... On the other hand We never try to judge a book by its cover without introducing it to new ideas Here.... each pup is given the opportunity
The BIG difference a bloodhound makes for us ....
1. Bloodhounds are Cold trackers as well as Hot...... Bloodhounds do-not need a blood trail to find game or humans.... they can track airborne In the Rain heat or cold through water or snow (Unlike other breeds who will give up because of the hot temperatures... dry air conditions.... rain or the cold...... they are more persistent..... not easily distracted..) 2. Bloodhounds are calm... slower by nature... larger brains more intelligence... easier to train.. If you can train a Collie you can train a Bloodhound.... They Love the sense of Family.... Children...... We enjoy our Dogs in our home... as well as on Vacations 3. Loyal to call... Our dogs stay close while tracking.... TRAINING REPETITION There is a difference..... Drop a tailgate..... (Bloodhounds can be called back)... 4. Quiet Trackers The natural instinct is to bay the prey once treed... less injury to the dog and game... 5. Not continuous barkers Or howlers.... We do not believe in Kennels or chains Keep any Dog Breed on a chain or in a small Kennel And see for yourselves What you end up with! Bloodhounds can live well in town settings.... or residential surburban areas..... doesn't require a lot of room for exercise ..... 6. Gentle Giants
These are just a few reasons why we are loyal to our Dogs and they grow up to become top notch.. well socialized Champion Tracking Dogs we can count on.... Our personal dogs are breedable only if they provide strict standards of...conformation... health... temperament.... etc... This takes years of dedication and careful planning.... limiting our females on the amount of breeding per year and becoming very selective to whom we breed : Note our pups have heavy bone with square head and body... Lots of skin and Wrinkle Are we perfect? No.... but we try So before you make a quick decision and buy any Bloodhound consider Mountain Crest Bloodhounds where Quality does mean something.. |
