Mountain Crest Bloodhounds

Proudly Presents

Mountain Crest Bloodhounds

Ly in the heart of the

Michigan Water Wonderlands...

We are centered at the base of the

Blue Mountains

Surrounded by

 Woods...Lakes....Farmlands

 and Artesian Springs...

We Love Bloodhounds we know you will too...

Bloodhounds are easily trained,

very intelligent.....quick.....

and willing to learn...

They are Loyal with Great Personality...

 A versatile Breed of Dog....

They are born Hunters...Trackers

and Extremely exceptional House Pets ...

85% of our puppies go to family homes as pets....

10% become Hunters...Trackers...

5% AKC Show and SAR Teams

 Born into

Generations of Houndsmen

Blessed and  privileged to live and hunt

with some of the

best versatile woodsmen of the state....

It has been our honor

to own most breed of Hound......

But.. for us

the Bloodhound works the best...

We are frequently asked...

"Do the Bloodhound

need to be taught to track....

or does it come natural "

Here's our Example....

you be the Judge....

    All dog breeds can scent

 this is a natural instinct...

But only a portion of the story....

Not all Dogs

 can earn the title.....

Hunting or Tracking Dogs....

(whether Tracking Man or Beast)

All Dogs can make a quick dive

Chasing the
nearest squirrel....

  then follow their nose

to the next door neighbor's cat..

then is a 15 second flash search for

a scrap of unwrapped candy...

They can get into all kinds of trouble...

and come home smelling

like they had a rondeau....

This is not a true hunter or tracker...

this is a nuisance...

a scent jumper

and not even a good family pet

Where Bloodhounds differ

They have the ability to detect a human cell

14 microns in size

 shed three days ago

in the pouring rain

at a mall

They are used in the Armed forces

Work consistantly with the Police

used for the Escapes from prisons

able to find lost people and pets

Bloodhounds are the only dog breed

Admissible in a Court of Law

as a witness

Here is a test our pups

 must pass....before

they get the Honorable Mention

Do they have the heart and stamina

along with drive and desire...

to stick to (one )scent for hours

Is there a willingness

to endure different terrain

of Rocks, Mountains,

Woods, Swamps,

Bush, and Brush

in climates of  pouring rain, Snow Blizzards

extreme heat, or dry drought conditions

Do they look forward to the experience....

Are they enjoying it?

Does fear overcome their ambition?

Do they shutter at the sound of a rifle?

crack of a twig,

rumble of thunder,

or bolt of lighting?

 Do they travel well

and work well

with other dogs in the same pack or

non pack members?

Are they leaders?

or do they follow

the pack as subordinates....

Can they work alone

without the distraction

of needing companions or humans

around them?

..Do they understand

commands well

and respond quickly?

Are they intimidated

 or distracted

with comotion?

When we train our dogs

  We consider our dogs

 mentally  puppies

until 3 yrs of age

 And this depends

on the nature of the

individual

Some adapt faster

some slower

Our dogs

are not pushed

beyond their limit

they make their own choice

Dogs simular to people

have their own attitudes

and desires...

The key is  Find

That One Pup

That has the same

excitement and desire

to Hunt and Track like you do...

True houndsmen

know it can take years
to raise..and train
a good seasoned dog.....

Repetition.....

Patience

Experience

along with

Good old fashion Love

is the benefit for

both hound and man..

There is no sense in

dragging a puppy to the woods

when he will never enjoy the trip...

On the other hand

Mountain Crest

try's

not to judge a book by its cover

The BIG difference

a bloodhound

 makes for us ....

1. Bloodhounds are Cold trackers

as well as Hot......

Bloodhounds do-not need a blood trail

to find game or humans....

they can track airborne

(Unlike other breeds who will  give up

because of the hot temperatures...

dry air conditions....

rain or the cold......

they are more persistent.....

not easily distracted..)

2. Bloodhounds are calm...

slower by nature...

They are most often called

Gentle Giants

Larger brains more intelligence...

easier to train..

They Love the sense of Family....

Children......

Very protective

We enjoy our Dogs in our home...

as well as on Vacations

 Loyal to call...

Our dogs stay close while tracking

without shock collars or training devices

(We do use choke chains and whistles)

Drop a tailgate.....

(Bloodhounds can be called back)...

4. Quiet Trackers

their natural instinct is to

bay the prey once treed...

5.  Not continuous barkers

Or howlers....

We do not believe in Kennels

or chains

Keep any Dog on

a chain

or in a small Kennel

And see for yourselves

What you end up with!

Bloodhounds

 live well in town settings....

or residential surburban areas.....

They do not require

lot's of room for exercise .....

These are just a few reasons

why we are so loyal to our Dogs

 They grow up to

be top notched

well socialized

Champion Tracking Dogs

we can count on....

We practice and provide

 strict standards

of...conformation...

health...

temperament....

etc...

Note:

Mountain Crest is very proud

our dogs are starting to produce

the Old Foundation colors

as well as the size and weight

Bloodhounds were orginated with.

We personally love the old genetics

and we will continue to perfect

 our future generations

striving to get back

what was inhearently lost

from the Bloodhound heritage,

as well as conforming

to most of the modern standards

of the breed...

This takes years of dedication!

Are we perfect?

  No....but we do try

SO

Before you make a quick decision

to buy any Bloodhound

consider

 Mountain Crest Bloodhounds

where

 Quality and Old Foundation Bloodlines

still means something..
